Aklief Cream information

What is Aklief Cream?

Aklief is a topical cream used to treat acne. It contains the active ingredient Trifarotene, which is a topical retinoid medication that is used primarily for the treatment of acne.

What is Aklief Cream used for?

Aklief Cream contains the retinoid trifarotene, which helps the skin replace its old skin cells quickly. Akilef also exfoliates old cells which helps to prevent new acne from forming. It may also reduce inflammatory acne often experienced with pimples.

Where can you use Aklief Cream?

Aklief is well tolerated and can be used to treat acne not only on the face but also on large areas of the body like the back and chest, which makes it stand out compared with other retinoid treatments.

Who can use Aklief Cream?

AKLIEF Cream is a prescription retinoid used to treat acne. We can offer it to people aged 18 and over.

How long does Aklief Cream take to work?

Aklief has been clinically proven to show significant results in as little as 2 weeks. However all individuals are different, and it may take longer to achieve the results you need.

Where can you buy Aklief Cream?

You can buy Aklief cream to treat acne online from The Independent Pharmacy — a UK-based online pharmacy service — following a free consultation. A prescription-only cream, Aklief is not available over the counter. To find out more about acne and review a range of genuine prescription acne treatments, visit our acne information page.

Aklief alternatives

At The Independent Pharmacy, we stock a number of effective acne treatments, including over-the-counter products and prescription-only medications that can be purchased following an online consultation. You should have a thorough discussion with your doctor or pharmacist to determine the most suitable treatment for your acne symptoms.

If you suffer from moderate to severe acne, your doctor may recommend an antibiotic cream. Antibiotic acne creams include:

  • Duac Gel, an antibiotic combination treatment that contains clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide.
  • Zineryt Lotion, an antibiotic solution for moderate acne that contains erythromycin.
  • Treclin Gel, an antibiotic combination treatment that contains clindamycin and tretinoin.

Antibiotic treatments for acne also come in the form of oral antibiotics. Oral antibiotic acne treatments include Oxytetracycline and Minocycline (broad-spectrum antibiotics that stop the growth of bacteria).

For more mild cases of acne, other acne treatments are available over the counter, including face wash treatments such as Acnecide, cleansing products such as Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser, and emollients such as CeraVe Moisturising Lotion.

How to use Aklief Cream

1. Cleanse the areas that you are going to treat with a mild or soapless cleanser and pat dry.

2. Apply a thin layer of Aklief Cream to the affected areas once a day in the evening. One pump for the face, two pumps for the chest, shoulders, and back.

If needed, you may use an additional pump for your middle to lower back.

If you can’t reach or don’t have anyone to help, applicators can be used to help you apply the cream where it’s needed.

3. Moisturise as often as needed to help minimize skin dryness and irritation.

4. Avoid the sun where possible. Sunlight can darken acne and actually cause it to last longer.

If you have to be in sunlight you should use sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or more, and wear protective clothing and a wide-brimmed hat to cover the treated areas.

If you become sunburned, you should stop using the treatment and wait until your skin has healed.

What if you miss a dose?

Don’t double the dose to make up for the forgotten one. Just continue the next day with the same amount of product. Try and keep using it as your dermatology provider instructed to get the most out of your treatment.
