Zindaclin Information

How does acne occur?

Acne is a common skin condition induced by changes in the body’s hormone levels, which causes the skin to produce excess oil, called sebum. Bacteria called P.acnes live on the skin and break down the sebum for nutrients. The excess sebum and bacteria block up the pores causing spots to develop. Acne can appear anywhere on the body but is most regularly seen on the face, the back and the chest.

While acne can clear up on its own, it can be sore or painful as well as cause some people to feel self-conscious. Zindaclin gel is a proven treatment that can reduce the redness and inflammation of spots on the skin, caused by acne, and protect against new spots from appearing.

How does Zindaclin treat acne?

Zindaclin gel contains the active ingredient, clindamycin phosphate. Clindamycin is an antibiotic that stops bacteria from growing on the skin.

Zindaclin gel is applied directly to the skin that is affected by acne where it works by destroying the bacteria that are present on the skin, which stops them from blocking the pores which would normally result in new spots appearing. The gel can also reduce skin irritation, redness and inflammation that can be painful and annoying.

Zindaclin and other acne treatments

Zindaclin is a topical acne treatment that contains an antibiotic, clindamycin. This is the same active ingredient that is contained in Dalacin-T.

You should only ever use one antibiotic acne treatment at a time so Zinaclin should not be combined with other oral or topical antibiotic treatments.

Using a topical antibiotic acne treatment with a non-antibiotic treatment has been shown to yield better results than either used alone. We would recommend using Zindaclin with another topical treatment, such as Acnecide gel, Skinoren cream, Differin, or Epiduo gel.

Zindaclin warnings

Before using Zindaclin Gel make sure you are aware of all the warnings and precautions detailed in the Patient Information Leaflet.

  • Speak to your doctor before using Zindaclin Gel if you suffer from inflammatory bowel disease or have previously had diarrhoea as a result of taking antibiotics.
  • If you are currently taking or have recently stopped taking any other prescribed or non-prescribed medication you should speak to a doctor or pharmacist before using Zindaclin Gel.
  • Zindaclin Gel contains about 20% ethanol which is equivalent to about 0.2g of alcohol.

Zindaclin in pregnancy & breastfeeding

You should speak to a doctor or pharmacist for advice before using Zindaclin Gel if you are pregnant or breastfeeding and suffering from acne.

The active ingredient, clindamycin can be absorbed and passed to your baby through the breast so you should not breastfeed while using Zindaclin.

Zindaclin dosage

Zindaclin gel can be prescribed by The Independent Pharmacy for the treatment of acne for adults over the age of 18 years.

Zindaclin gel must be applied directly to the affected skin only, once a day. Avoid applying Zindaclin to the surrounding healthy skin.

  • Before applying Zindaclin Gel, wash the affected skin gently with mild soap, rinse with warm water and pat your skin dry.
  • Apply a small amount of gel in a thin layer to the whole area where you usually get the spots. Do not apply Zindaclin only to individual spots.

Acne treatments can take several weeks to start to noticeably improve the condition of your skin and so you are likely to be prescribed Zindaclin Gel for several months. You may not see the full effect of using Zindaclin for 4 - 8 weeks. You need to continue using the treatment for the whole course that you have been prescribed otherwise you risk the acne quickly returning - this is normally 3 - 6 months without a break.

Before using Zindaclin Gel Please make sure you have read the Patient Information Leaflet.
