Alka-Seltzer XS Information
How does Alka-Seltzer XS work?
Alka-Seltzer XS is an effervescent pain reliever containing aspirin and paracetamol. The aspirin and paracetamol work together to relieve your pain and reduce inflammation, while the caffeine works to ensure fast absorption so your symptoms are relieved quickly.
How quickly does Alka-Seltzer XS get results?
Alka-Seltzer XS dissolves quickly and goes to work soon after. Medicines in effervescent form don’t require time to dissolve in the stomach like other treatments, and so provide relief more rapidly than traditional tablets. With the addition of caffeine, you can expect Alka-Seltzer XS to take effect very swiftly.
Alternatives to Alka-Seltzer XS
Effervescent medication acts quickly and can be easier to consume, but if you prefer a regular tablet, look into Paracetamol or Ibuprofen. If you’re experiencing higher levels of pain and discomfort, seek stronger treatment. Paramol uses dihydrocodeine, a stronger painkiller, and is available after a short online consultation with our team.
How do I take Alka-Seltzer XS?
Alka-Seltzer XS is an effervescent medication, which means it needs to be dissolved in water. Drop two tablets into half a glass (100ml) of water, wait for the tablets to dissolve completely, and drink. This medication is not recommended for children under the age of 16.
How often can I use Alka-Seltzer XS?
The recommended adult dose of Alka-Seltzer XS is 2 tablets every 4 hours as needed. However, it may be that your doctor recommends a higher dosage. Do not exceed 8 tablets in 24 hours.
Does Alka-Seltzer XS produce any side effects?
Alka-Seltzer XS rarely causes problems, being a tried and tested form of treatment, but it can occasionally produce side effects. These side effects may include the following:
- Stomach bleeding, which may result in black or tarry stools
- Nausea
