Daktrain 2% Cream Information
What is Daktarin cream?
Daktarin cream contains 2% of the active ingredient miconazole nitrate. Miconazole is an antifungal treatment which when applied to the skin and nails kills fungi that are responsible for infections on the trunk of the body, hands or feet, scalp or outer ear and the groin.
Daktarin cream has been tried and tested to stop the spread and to clear up fungal infections with daily use within 7-10 days.
What is Daktarin cream used for?
Daktarin cream can be used to treat fungal skin and nail infections in children and adults. Some example of fungal infections that Daktarin cream can be used to treat are listed below:
- Thrush (candidiasis)
- Ringworm on the body and scalp
- Athletes foot
- Jock itch
- Fungal nail infections
- Nappy rash
- Pityriasis
Daktarin for babies
Daktarin cream can be used to treat fungal infections in babies from birth. If you are concerned that your baby has a fungal infection, it is recommended that you discuss this with a doctor or pharmacist before starting using any medication.
Daktarin for hair growth
Daktarin cream is not licensed for use to stimulate hair growth and there is limited scientific research to suggest that Daktarin is an effective treatment for hair loss.
For more information about available treatments for hair loss in men and women, please see our Hair Loss Treatment and Advice page.
How does Daktarin cream work?
Daktarin cream contains miconazole nitrate which is commonly used to treat fungal infection. When Daktarin is applied to the skin and nails the miconazole targets fungal cells and makes holes in their membranes causing them to die which prevents further spread of the infection and heals the treated areas.
How long does Daktarin cream take to work?
Daktarin should be used daily for at least 10 days to treat fungal nail and skin infections.
You should keep using the Daktarin cream up until 10 days even if it appears that your infection has cleared. If you stop using Daktarin earlier than 10 days the infection is more likely to come back.
If your infection has not improved after using Daktarin cream daily for 10 consecutive days you should speak to a doctor or pharmacist for advice.
