Eating at Christmas While Taking Mounjaro

If you’re trying to lose weight and get healthy, Christmas can be a challenging time. While you’ll want to have fun and enjoy the festive season, you may also be concerned that too much indulgence could undo everything you’ve achieved so far with Mounjaro injections.

However, your weight loss timeline doesn’t have to come to a standstill just because it’s Christmas. In fact, with a little planning, you could keep your weight loss journey on track and enjoy the festive season.

To help you find the perfect balance between Christmas and Mounjaro, we’re taking a look at what you can eat when taking weight loss injections and how to maintain your weight loss momentum over the festive period.

Should I Stop Taking Mounjaro For The Christmas Period?

Although it can be tempting to stop Mounjaro over Christmas, the general advice is not to temporarily stop using weight loss injections. While it’s a personal choice, and you know your body best, it’s important to consider the consequences of a Mounjaro break before choosing to stop your injections.

One of the main side effects of a pause in Mounjaro treatment is weight gain. Without regular injections, your appetite is likely to grow, and you may find you start to consume more calories than you did while using weight loss injections.

When you restart your treatment, you’ll be recommended to go back to taking a 2.5mg dose. This is to help your body readjust to the medication and minimise returning side effects. This may mean you need to buy more lower dose injections again, before you can gradually increase to your usual maintenance dose.

Can I Still Eat A Full Christmas Dinner While On Mounjaro?

No food – including Christmas dinner – is off limits when using Mounjaro. However, as the medication suppresses your appetite, you may well find that you don’t want to eat as much as usual.

Plus, since fatty foods and Mounjaro don’t mix well (eating foods high in fat can make symptoms like nausea and diarrhoea worse) you may want to opt for healthier alternatives. For example, you could swap roast potatoes for boiled, steam your vegetables instead of frying them, and avoid side dishes high in fat, like Yorkshire puddings.

And remember, if you have any concerns or questions about eating and Mounjaro, always speak to a licensed healthcare professional.

Will My Weight Loss Be Affected If I Overeat at Christmas?

Mounjaro is designed to reduce your appetite and make fatty and sugary foods less appealing. This makes it far less likely that you’ll feel the need to ‘blow out’ this Christmas.

Where possible, it’s always a good idea to stick to healthy, low-fat foods and small portions.

If you do overeat it’s important not to feel bad about falling off the wagon. Mounjaro can help you manage your weight loss once the Christmas period is over and get you back on track with your healthy eating plan.

What If I Put A Lot Of Weight On At Christmas?

If you find it hard to stick to your new, healthy lifestyle and you put on weight during the festive period, don’t panic. As long as you go back to your healthy lifestyle once Christmas is over, you should lose the weight that you’ve gained.

Remember, you have to overeat by around 3,500 calories to gain 1lb of fat, so it’s normal to see some weight fluctuations over the festive period. The important thing is to stay consistent with your Mounjaro injections so the medication can help you get back on track once Christmas is over.

It is essential that you speak to a licensed medical professional before starting any weight loss medication. They can provide personalised, expert guidance, assess potential risks and ensure that your chosen treatment is safe and suitable for your health needs.

Mounjaro suppresses your appetite and makes high fat foods less appealing. So, you may find you don’t want to eat as much this Christmas. Where possible, make healthy changes to your festive lunch by steaming and boiling instead of roasting and frying. If you do overeat, Mounjaro can help you to lose weight once the festive period is over.
