Preparing Your Nevolat Pen

Before using your Nevolat pen for the first time, follow these steps to ensure it’s safe and ready:

  1. Check the expiry date - Look at the pen label and carton for the ‘EXP’ date. Don’t use the pen if it’s past the last day of the listed month.
  2. Inspect the solution - Ensure the liquid inside the pen is clear and colourless (or nearly colourless). If it’s cloudy, discoloured, or contains particles, don’t use it.
  3. Store it correctly - Keep your pen in the fridge at 2°C-8°C before use. Don’t freeze it and avoid storing it near the freezer compartment.
  4. Attach a needle - Use the disposable needle that will be provided. If you need more, we can supply them. Always attach a new needle before each injection and never use a bent or damaged one.

Following these steps ensures safe and effective use of your Nevolat pen.

Where To Inject Nevolat

Nevolat should be injected under the skin (subcutaneous injection) for it to work effectively. The best areas for injection are:

  • the front of your waist (abdomen). This is often the easiest and most convenient spot. Avoid injecting too close to the belly button.
  • the front of your thighs. A good alternative, especially if your abdomen is sensitive or sore.
  • your upper arms. This area can be used, but you may need help if you find it hard to reach.

Rotating your injection sites is important to avoid irritation or discomfort. For example, if you inject into your abdomen one day, use a different area or side the next time you take your medication. Never inject into the same exact spot repeatedly.

Always make sure you inject using the proper technique, as advised by your pharmacist.

Don’t inject into veins or muscles; and avoid any areas with bruises, scars, or broken skin. Changing where you inject it helps the medicine to be absorbed better and reduces the chance of developing skin irritations.

Step By Step Injection Guide

Now, let’s look at how to use your Nevolat weight loss injection:

First Steps

  1. Check your pen: Confirm the name, coloured label, and expiry date. Don’t use the pen if it’s expired.
  2. Inspect the solution: Remove the pen cap and check the liquid inside. It should be clear and colourless (or almost colourless). Don’t use if it’s cloudy or contains particles.
  3. Attach a new needle:
    • take a new needle and tear off the paper tab.
    • push the needle straight onto the pen and twist it until it’s tight.
    • remove the outer needle cap and set it aside for later use.
    • remove the inner needle cap and dispose of it immediately.

Flow Check (First Time Using a New Pen)

  1. Turn the dose selector until the dose counter shows the flow check symbol (a dot with lines).
  2. Hold the pen with the needle pointing upward.
  3. Press and hold the dose button until the dose counter returns to zero. A drop of solution should appear at the tip of the needle.
  4. If no drop appears, repeat the step up to six times.
  5. If no drop appears, try a new needle.
  6. If a drop still doesn’t appear, dispose of the pen and use a new one.
  7. Always ‘check the flow’ for any new pen.

Injection Process

  1. Set your dose: Turn the dose selector to the prescribed dose (e.g., 0.6 mg, 1.2 mg, 1.8 mg, 2.4 mg, or 3.0 mg). You can adjust the dose forwards or backwards if needed.
  2. Inject:
    • insert the needle into your skin at the site shown by your doctor or nurse (abdomen, thigh, or upper arm).
    • make sure you can see the dose counter.
    • press and hold the dose button until the counter returns to 0.
  3. Count to six: Keep the needle in your skin after the dose counter shows 0 and slowly count to six to ensure you receive the full dose.
  4. Remove the needle: Gently remove the needle from your skin and release the dose button.

Post-Injection Care

  1. Cover the needle: Place the needle tip into the outer needle cap on a flat surface, without touching the needle or the cap. Carefully push the cap onto the needle.
  2. Dispose of the needle: Unscrew the needle from the pen and dispose of it in a sharps container or follow local disposal guidance.

Cap your pen: Replace the pen cap after each use to protect it from damage and light.

Storing And Maintaining Your Pen

Proper storage and maintenance of your Nevolat pen are crucial for its safe and effective use:

Before opening

Store the pen in a refrigerator at 2°C-8°C. Don’t freeze or place it near the freezer compartment.

After opening

Once in use, the pen can be kept for up to one month at room temperature (below 30°C) or in the fridge. Always keep the pen cap on to protect it from light.

Disposal

Never refill or repair the pen. Dispose of it once empty or after one month of use. Ask your pharmacist about safe disposal methods.

Avoid exposing the pen to heat, dust, dirt, or liquids, and never inject medicine that has been frozen.

Always store the pen out of children’s reach and handle it with care to ensure its reliability.

Always Remember...

It is essential that you speak to a licensed medical professional before starting any weight loss medication. They can provide personalised, expert guidance, assess potential risks and ensure that your chosen treatment is safe and suitable for your health needs.
