What is Oilatum Cream used for?
Oilatum Cream is highly effective at treating the dry, itchy, irritating skin flare-ups caused by eczema.
Eczema is a common skin condition that’s usually caused through contact with allergens such as dust, pollen, detergents, or food, while even factors such as cold weather can trigger the condition. When eczema develops, the skin is unable to maintain its protective functions due to a decrease in the fats and oils it needs to defend itself. The affected area of skin will subsequently become very dry, itchy, and inflamed, before cracking and bleeding.
How does Oilatum Cream work?
Oilatum cream contains light liquid paraffin as its active ingredient. This helps to treat your eczema (or other dry skin condition) by creating a light layer of oil over the surface of your skin.
This layer prevents any more moisture from evaporating from the skin’s surface, allowing the affected area time to recover and gently soothing the unpleasant itchiness.
How do I use Oilatum Cream?
It’s best to use Oilatum Cream immediately after a bath or shower, to prevent the need for reapplication, and to help ‘lock in’ the essential fats and oils your skin will begin to produce soon after.
You can reapply the cream as often as you see fit, and it can be applied to any part of the body; simply smooth the cream into the skin until it’s fully absorbed.
How often should I use Oilatum Cream?
Oilatum Cream can be used as often as you deem necessary, but if your symptoms are particularly persistent, it’s best to consult your doctor or pharmacist for further advice.
Who is Oilatum Cream suitable for?
Oilatum can be used by all ages, from infants to adults. The formulation is fragrance-free and doesn’t contain lanolin, so is suitable for vegan households.
However, if your child has experienced an allergic reaction to Oilatum in the past, seek another treatment option or have a chat with your GP about a suitable alternative.
